Ingredients

  • 300 g medium shrimp peeled, deveined, and chopped
  • 1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • 2 green onions finely chopped
  • ½ teaspoon white pepper
  • ½ teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 16 –20 wonton wrappers Hong Kong style preferred
  • Water for sealing edges
  • Optional: chili oil soy sauce, or broth for serving

Method

  1. Finely chop shrimp and mix with ginger, garlic, green onions, white pepper, sesame oil, and cornstarch until well combined.
  2. Place 1 teaspoon of filling in the center of each wonton wrapper.
  3. Dab the edges with water, fold into a triangle, pressing out air.
  4. Bring opposite corners together and overlap to form classic wonton shape.
  5. Bring a pot of lightly salted water or broth to a gentle simmer.
  6. Add wontons in batches, cooking for 4–5 minutes until shrimp is opaque and wrappers are tender.
  7. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain.
  8. Serve immediately with a drizzle of sesame oil, fresh scallions, chili oil, or in a clear soup.

Notes

Use fresh, high-quality shrimp for the best flavor. Ensure wonton wrappers are sealed tightly to prevent opening while cooking. Do not overcrowd the pot for even cooking. Serve immediately for tender, flavorful wontons with delicate texture.
